In 1996 I started my own web development company as a self-taught HTML developer.
In 1999 I founded Sputnik Agency in Melbourne with two business partners and worked as the Technical Director in charge of all online development. We developed a lot of our web applications from scratch using PHP and Java but also used Joomla! for a number of projects. By the time I left in 2007 I was managing a team or 12 developers and three BA/PMs.
Since leaving Sputnik Agency I've been working as a contractor doing business analysis and online strategy. I've worked as much as possible with arts and environmental organisations, and in particular developed and am managing Contemporary Dance Australia, (http://www.contemporarydance.com.au/) which is a community website for contemporary dance.
I've recently been trying out Drupal and am loving the community and the power of the framework, despite the learning curve.
Before getting involved in the Internet I trained and worked as an actor and theatre director in New Zealand, gained a law degree and in the early 90s wrote a number of plays including one about a computer hacker.
